Survey Report Summary

The Small Business Lending Survey Report reveals how banks are managing their small business relationships and improving their effectiveness to expand credit portfolios. Through in-depth research interviews with more than 100 bank executives, the survey identifies the critical challenges in front office operations and the best practices implemented to address them. The survey reviews the systems and processes used by banks to originate and underwrite loans, leases, lines, cards and other small business credit instruments. The first few sections describe how the survey was conducted, the types of banks that participated and the products they offer. Later sections review the survey results related to specific functional disciplines including sales, credit, documentation, operations, overall front office efficiency and systems integration.

Survey Report Summary

The Commercial and Equipment Finance Survey Report is conducted to determine how banks, finance companies, equipment leasing companies and other commercial finance providers are managing their relationships, improving their processes and enhancing their systems to grow their business. This is the second annual Commercial Finance Survey sponsored by Blackwell Consulting and CapitalStream. This year’s survey focuses on the commercial finance front office along with the numerous customers, partners, vendors, brokers, service bureaus and various external and internal organizations that make up the “finance supply chain”. The survey reviews how each of these groups work together to originate loans, leases, lines and other commercial finance instruments. Market research specialists interviewed 220 banks and finance companies specializing in commercial and equipment finance to discover how they source and process new deals, the key issues they face, and the systems and processes they use to address these issues.

Survey Report Summary

While there have been many surveys covering the leasing industry, there has never been a survey focused on how leasing companies originate new transactions. Given the difficult business environment and the focus on top line revenue, Northern Consulting and WiredCapital (CapitalStream) decided to conduct the first Leasing Front Office Survey. Market research specialists interviewed 109 banks, captives and independent leasing companies to discover how they source and process new leases, the key issues they face, and the systems and processes they use to address these issues. This report summarizes the findings from this research. The first few sections describe how the survey was conducted and the types of companies that responded. One of the unique characteristics of this survey is that respondents were given the opportunity to rate over 50 different issues in order to objectively identify the top priorities facing the industry. The top issues section discusses the top 10 issues and the best practices being used to address them. Later sections review the survey results related to specific disciplines within the leasing front office including sales, credit, documentation and vendor/partner programs.
